Before she met and wed John List, then known as Robert Peter “Bob” Clark, Delores Miller Clark led a modest existence in Denver. When they first met in 1985, John List had killed his family members some 14 years prior. He was on the run. Longtime wanted man and mass killer massacred his mother, wife, and three children in November 1971 in their Westfield, New Jersey, home. After draining his mother’s and his own financial accounts, he had changed his name and run away. John List was apprehended eighteen years later.

Miller, Delores Bio
It is not known what Delores did before she wed John List. She was a plain woman who worked as an Army PX clerk when they first met. The two got together at a Christian religious event. Delores and John moved into a home in Midlothian, Virginia, near Brandermill, where her husband was an accountant for a corporation. 1989 saw the divorce between Delores and John, most likely after his June 1st incarceration. Together, they were childless. After John was arrested, Delores kept a low profile, and it is unknown what became of her.

He was born John Emil List on September 15, 1925, parents Alma Barbara Florence List and John Frederick List. John worked in laboratories during World War II after joining the US Army in 1943. Once the army released him in 1946, he enrolled at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He graduated from accounting master’s program and administration bachelor’s program.
1950 saw the recall of John List to active duty. He initially wed Helen Morris Taylor, whose husband had been killed in combat in Korea. Helen lived close to John’s duty station at Fort Eustis, Virginia, with her daughter Brenda. On December 1, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, the new lovers were married. John and Helen had three daughters while he was an audit supervisor at a Kalamazoo paper firm. Later, to take a job with Xerox, the family relocated to Rochester, New York. They moved once more in 1965 to Breeze Knoll, a 19-room estate in Westfield.
In November 1971, John shot and killed his mother, wife, and three children. He shot his mother and wife first, then waited for his kids to come home before killing them. Then he cleared the crime scenes, took his photo out of every family photo, turned on the radio and lights, and left. A month into not seeing anyone coming or going from the residence, the neighbors called the police.
Though a manhunt was launched, John was not apprehended for eighteen years. The arrest happened after Fox aired America’s Most Wanted, which included a clay bust of John’s aged visage. A former neighbor in Denver called the police, who then made the arrest. John was found guilty of five first-degree murder counts and given five life sentences. He killed his immediate family because, after losing his job, he was unable to pay the mansion’s mortgage and did not want them to suffer criticism. As his son aspired to be an actor, he also believed that his kids were deviating from the right path. To rescue their souls and get them into paradise, Jesus slaughtered them.
Still incarcerated, John passed away in March 2008 at the age of 82 from pneumonia-related problems.
